Effective Communication

This is a trait in all relationships that could be worked on whether in college or high school.  High school students just need to have that maturity to actually discuss their feelings with their partner, a trait that a college student would more than likely have already.  Because they spend more time with friends than in college, maybe not all feelings are conveyed to each other.

Demonstrate Commitment to Relationship

Because high school students do spend more time with friends, they tend to have less commitment to their primary relationships.  Because college relationship may require more commitment from each partner, high school students don't see that until they experience it themselves.

Independence for Each Other with Healthy Level of Dependence on Each Other

High school students tend to have the independence and dependence aspects down well.  Most teenagers at this age like their freedom and will have it in their relationships.  Because of this, they do not overly depend on their partner for much.  There are a few cases where one can overly depend, which is something they will realize when they have a college relationship.
